Minnesota Extension is made up of four centers Agriculture Food and Natural Resources Community Vitality Family Development and Youth Development The Extension Center for Family Development helps families make informed decisions to promote better health financial security and well being We accomplish this by developing delivering and evaluating credible relevant and research based education working closely with others across Minnesota to build the strengths of individuals and families of all ages ethnicities and backgrounds conducting and collaborating on research projects recruiting and retaining expert faculty and staff passionate about families and their success increasing the understanding of our work among key stakeholders and securing resources to sustain and grow programs that meet emerging needs and support strategic priorities Extension Center for Family Development s current programs focus on family resiliency and health and nutrition with special effort in the areas of children s mental health families in transition building healthy and strong families and preparing for an aging Minnesota ABOUT THIS POSITION A significant effort within the Health and Nutrition program area is the administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education SNAP Ed grant Using grant dollars SNAP Ed Educators work throughout the state to make the healthy choice Extension Center for Family Development is in need of a SNAP Ed Educator to work in the Central region SNAP Ed Educators promote and improve individual and community health by promoting healthy eating behaviors and physical activity in low income communities The person s in this position is responsible for program delivery within a wide variety of community settings in the region This includes building relationships with the community conducting community needs assessments reviewing findings adapting program to fit audience s needs and implementing and delivering appropriate health and nutrition programs In addition the person s in this position will utilize the full spectrum of prevention strategies including public health approaches Public health approaches promote policy system and environmental changes to improve access to healthy food and physical activity opportunities in order that individual behavioral change is possible This position is a full time position and will report to the SNAP Ed Regional Coordinator While this position will travel frequently across the Stearns Benton Wright Meeker and McLeod counties it will be based out of the St Cloud Regional Extension Office REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s degree in health nutrition or a closely related discipline OR a combination of education and related experience to total years or more years of experience in teaching community engagement community health promotion or community education Demonstrated skills in planning organizing problem solving and successfully completing multiple tasks Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals organizations and or communities representing new culturally diverse economically diverse and underserved audiences Professional communication style with good written and verbal communication skills Basic computer skills including experience using Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint competent keyboarding data entry skills experience doing internet searches experience using email and the ability to actively participate in web based communication and training Valid driver s license and reliable vehicle with required liability insurance to be utilized for frequent travel within assigned programming area and infrequent travel in greater Minnesota Personal cell phone that can be used as needed for work purposes Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including some evening and weekend hours to meet the program participant needs and availability PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience complying with reporting requirements and financial policies and procedures Experience using distance technologies and social media to market and deliver educational programming Direct life experience with issues and challenges related to living on a limited income Knowledge and or experience of public health approaches to promote policy system and environmental changes and improve access to healthy food and physical activity opportunities RESPONSIBILITIES Program Delivery Conduct assessments in community settings throughout a multi county geographic area to assess needs and strengths priority audiences and possible programmatic opportunities Adapt and deliver education with fidelity exercising independent judgment when adapting to the learning environment and employing a high level of cultural competency and sensitivity to issues associated with living on a limited income As needed adapt and deliver educational curricula to non English speaking audiences by using an interpreter or teaching in the language Recruit and provide train the trainer sessions on program approved curricula for community professionals Once trained provide technical assistance to community professionals on implementation and evaluation of curricula Analyze the need for public health approaches that complement direct education to address critical community health issues implementing public health strategies eg social marketing campaign smarter lunchroom strategies or healthy food access to promote environmental and systems level changes on health and nutrition issues Communications and Community Partnership Identify build and strengthen local and or regional partnerships with organizations such as food shelves WIC clinics employment learning sites senior citizen centers schools child care centers homeless shelters summer youth programs low income housing and local grocery stores Market and promote health and nutrition educational programs and initiatives to potential and existing partners and participants Develop a communications plan for gathering feedback and reporting program outcomes with program partners and stakeholders Collaborate with community members stakeholders and other program partners by coordinating and facilitating planning meetings Leverage the insights and information from partners to inform the adaptation of curricula and programming materials Represent Extension and federal SNAP Ed in a professional manner providing informed support and expertise when serving on agency or community boards or advisory committees related to health and nutrition Implementing Procedures and Protocols Comply with University of Minnesota Extension grant funding agency Department of Human Services etc and community partners policies procedures and requirements Implement SNAP Ed programming and evaluation in accordance with program plans and guidance documents to ensure fidelity Work with partners to ensure audience eligibility and establish terms of programming Plan and implement an independent schedule to meet project strategies and meet outcomes Secure program participant information related to demographics eligibility attendance assessment and program evaluation using established privacy and data security procedures Other Responsibilities Assigned as Needed APPOINTMENT This is a full time
