Manager of Operations

Meeker Cooperative Light and Power Association (MCLP) is seeking a Manager of Operations to manage and coordinate installation, operation and maintenance of its distribution facilities in such a manner that meets the established standards and reflects the most efficient utilization of construction and operations methods, techniques and equipment. MCLP is located in Litchfield, MN and serves 8,900 accounts over its 1,900 miles of electric lines.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for and directs, with appropriate delegation, the overall planning, performance, and functions of construction, maintenance, and operations of the Cooperative’s overhead and underground facilities consistent with RUS, NESC, OSHA and safety standards.
Ensures an effective emergency maintenance and repair program of the electrical system emphasizing safe and timely repair.
Monitors and evaluates outage information and implements work procedures to minimize service interruptions to members.
Ensures proper investigation and resolution of member complaints regarding electric service to obtain appropriate resolution and maintain favorable member perceptions.
Ensures the Cooperative-wide safety program and efforts are enforced and all safety-related training needs are met to ensure a safe, healthy and efficient workplace.
Develops and recommends contracts, agreements and required legal documents related to position responsibilities for consideration by the General Manager/CEO, Cooperative engineers, legal counsel and/or the Board of Directors as appropriate.
Coordinates, directs and supervises the work activities of contractors to ensure work efficiency in the pursuit of productivity goals.
Directs the vehicle and power equipment maintenance and repair activities for the Cooperative to effectively and efficiently ensure extended, reliable service and functionality of this equipment.
Responsible for and directs maintenance of the headquarters, grounds and substations.
Responsible for and directs purchase of supplies and warehouse management.
Sets clear expectations of employee conduct and work requirements for all assigned personnel.
Directs or secures and schedules personnel, equipment and materials to accomplish assigned work plan goals.
Keeps General Manager/CEO informed on all matters, particularly those issues related to emphasis on safety and service concerns.


Job Requirements

College degree in related fields, ten years of practical experience, five years of supervisory experience in electric utility system operations or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.

Extensive experience in electrical distribution operations, maintenance and construction work, laws and regulations is necessary. Must be highly motivated, demonstrate positive management and supervisory skills, have a strong commitment to Cooperative principles and to providing excellent customer service. Must have a working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, accident prevention, code requirements, personnel procedures and budgeting. Alternative equivalencies to this experience may be considered appropriate and acceptable.

Knowledge: Knowledge of electrical distribution system operations, system layout, National Electric Safety Code, and safe working practices required. Must understand and know how to use computer applications such as industry-specific software, spreadsheets, word processing and data base applications or be able to acquire these skills within six months. Must be knowledgeable about transportation and power-operated equipment applications and regulations.

Abilities and Skills: Must be skilled at managing projects and people. Must possess excellent communication skills. Good human relations skills required. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time. Must possess a valid Minnesota drivers’ license (CDL is preferred). The successful candidate must be willing and able to participate in numerous continuing education classes to expand skills beyond those identified in these minimum specifications.

Must effectively lead a department while supporting the management team by providing effective participation and cooperation and communication and providing continuous improvement to employee morale, motivation, productivity and quality of production.
