The Yes Network, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, works with residents of low-income neighborhoods in the Saint Cloud area to improve quality of life. Our mission is to create vibrant, loving, prosperous neighborhoods through our presence and engagement with kids, families, and community members. We do this by working with residents to identify shared concerns and to involve them in developing solutions that best meet their needs. In the fall of 2017, the Yes Network is launching an "I Have A Dream" program as an affiliate of the National I Have A Dream Foundation. It will be an expansion of the Yes Network's current summer work into a year-round program in two affordable housing sites. This new position will be funded through AmeriCorps VISTA for the first year with an opportunity to continue on with a competitive salary and employee benefits. The program director will have the opportunity to help build the program, test out new ideas, and create new strategies in partnership with Yes Network Executive Director Jerry Sparby. The work schedule is highly flexible, with opportunities to participate in relevant national trainings, collaborate with area universities in providing expanded learning experiences for students, and build connections to other organizations within the community.

The mission of the "I Have A Dream" program is to motivate and empower children and families experiencing poverty to reach their college and career goals by providing a dynamic, long-term program of mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment. In the 2017-18 school year, 35 first through third grade students and their parents living in two affordable housing sites will be invited into the program. Each year, the new first grade students will be added to the original cohort to receive the same long-term support to help them stay on track academically. The broad program goals include 1) increasing parents' understanding of the profound effects of adverse childhood experiences on learning, behavior, and well-being and of positive steps toward self-care, 2) strengthening children's development of academic skills, social/emotional learning, self-care, and physical health, and 3) providing essential long-term supports to empower and inspire families to work together for their children's academic success. The Program Director will help launch the I Have A Dream program in partnership with the Yes Network Director by: 1) Developing strategic programming goals and objectives, 2) Researching and developing a program design that meets the needs of our specific group of families, 3) Piloting the program within the two affordable housing sites, working with students and their families, 4) Conducting a rigorous evaluation from multiple perspectives and developing a final report describing the successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

1) Strong commitment to the well-being of children and an understanding of the challenges facing low-income communities. 2) Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills. 3) Experience in working with children and families. 4) Preferred degree in Social Work, Education, Child and Family Studies or a related field.
